Playing catch-up.

Playing catch-up.

feeling: reflective
spinning: easy as the rain by norah jones and the little willies

Whenever Lanxi and I meet up for our tanning/shopping session, we will inevitably reminiscise about the "good ol' days". Over today's lunch of ramen, we talked about the times when we used to hang out at the Macdonald's at King Albert Park (we call it K.A.P) after school and the many characters we met there. One of the guys had a short stint as a model, and another apparently has universities fighting for him. And a little bird told us that the queen of flirts has gained enough pounds to fall off her throne. We were all so young, I don't think any of us ever imagined ourselves to turn out the way we do now. I would say most of us polished up pretty well!

For the first time in our many reminiscising sessions and in many long gone years, memories of my very first boyfriend came to mind. For the first time in my three years on Friendster, I decided to check out his profile. I stared at his picture for quite awhile, trying to recall what it was about him that had me head over heels in infatuation. I can't remember.

However, a part of me that died with those faded memories came back alive. For a moment, I was the idealistic young girl once again - naively unpolished and with a vivid imagination. For the first in a very long while, I dreamed, and for a split second, my thirteen year old's gusto for life and impatience to grow up quickly filled me. I'm barely twenty, but I feel so old.

Where's my cocktail Sunday?

Where's my cocktail Sunday?

I'd imagined a lazy Sunday afternoon with the girls at Sentosa, lounging by the pool, basking in the sun on the beach and maybe sipping an ice-cold drink at one of the beach bars thereafter to cool off. (Didn't stay over last night. I am not a fan of chalets I suppose?)

I awoke at eight to cloudy skies, and now, six hours later, it's pouring outside. Why oh why does the weather always rain on my parade???

The Boxer.

The Boxer.

The young boy rolls the bundle of chopsticks hesitantly over his shins, wincing slightly as they assaulted his nerves. Gritting his teeth, he repeats the action over and over again with more force each time, ignoring his body's pleas for him to stop... ignoring the blanket of tears clouding his vision...

With the force of a butcher tenderizing meat, the young man hits his shins with the same bundle of chopsticks which had initially caused him so much pain. No more tears or pleas this time around. His nerves have been numbed.

Always never the last.

Always never the last.

I almost always never mean it when I say it's the last post before I leave. Tsk. Over at Jason's now, spending some time before I jet off early tomorrow. (Bet I didn't mention in my previous post that I have to wake up at 3.30am.)
*I'm so sorry I gotta miss your farewell party Jazzy!

Was scrolling through my recent posts, trying to figure out which one Avril was referring to in her tag, when I saw "I wish I could... jet off to an exotic island getaway". I don't know what your ideas of exotic are - Maldives, Fiji, Jamaica... but Phuket's good enough for me. There, one wish down!

Jason, "Who says Jamaica is exotic?"

That was unneeded. Alrighty folks, off for a bite before heading home. Ceci's coming over and we're going for the Coach launch. Till I return (with gorgeous pictures I hope), love.

Goodbye fashion mayhem.

Goodbye fashion mayhem.

After weeks of countless whining, today marked my last day at the magazine. It's something that I have been procrastinating for ages and I am glad I took that final step. You might not know, but I have quit many a part-time job through sms! Friggin' rude I know, but that was just how much I hated confrontation.

It took a hell lot of courage to bring up the matter to my stylist I tell you, but I sure am glad I didn't chicken out of doing this whole face-to-face thing. Instead, she thanked me for telling her and was really nice about it.
*A million thanks to the peeps who have patiently bore the brunt of my complaints and given me the many courage-inducing pep talks!

Same for my editor when she found out. For years I've seen her pictures in magazines wondering if I'd ever have the chance to work for her and suddenly there I was in her office listening to her tell me how great I was and how she'd hate to see me go.

I haven't revealed this to many, but I was really bummed when Cl** didn't even reply my internship request. I looked through my work and the fear that my writing style didn't fit in a magazine crossed my mind many a time.

I know I have done a great job during this short stint and I have proved to myself and others that I do have what it takes to be a magazine writer. Many may ask why I am quitting a job which I have always professed to love. Well, in the course of pursuing what I thought would be my dream career, I've realized that it is not as fulfilling as I had imagined it to be.

I still feel like a little girl where my dreams and ideals are concerned, but I've decided not to rush it. For now, I'm happy to be a drifter. One day I believe, I will find my true calling.

This will probably be my last post till I return from Phuket. Let's hope it'd be a good break for me. :)

Strange twist of fate.

Strange twist of fate.

(Photo from Marriott.com)

When the deal was offered to me on a plate, I almost didn't accept it. After much deliberation however, turns out I'll be jetting to Phuket this weekend afterall. Marriot's Phuket Beach Club. Two bedroom villa. Sweet.

The mind blogger.

The mind blogger.

Blog topics creep into my mind at the weirdest times but unlike before, I no longer have the urge to rush to post an entry. Walking home after my run sometime last week, I conjured up a a little something to keep my mind off my blisters. (And I thought unsexy running shoes were supposed to be functional since they obviously don't look the part.)

Try it out guys and leave me a tag. I want an insight to your minds.

I am too responsible to be free spirited.
I am too sensitive to be cold.
I am too tanned to be fair.
I am too complicated to be understood.
I am too vain to be unkempt.
I am too picky to be easy-going.
I am too female to be male.
I am too romantic to be realistic.

I am too wishy washy to be decisive.
I am too inquisitive to be pacified.
I am too smart to be lied to.

I wish I could... zip off to an exotic island getaway.
I wish I could... fight like a man.
I wish I could... make up my mind.
I wish I could... have the guts to dive into the pool.
I wish I could... be contented with what I have.
I wish I could... have Heidi Klum's body? Haha!

Ever asked yourself what life's all about and silently wondered what the next step should and would be? I think people can go bonkers pondering and attempting to solve the mystery of life. Myself included.

If you ask me, my life is probably an infinitely large piece of drawing paper. And here I sit with a box full of crayons and a mind full of imagination. What's your take on purple trees?

13may - sandcastle

Don't build castles in the air

That was how I spent my Saturday afternoon - at the beach on a cloudy day building sandcastles from the post-rain sand. So much for getting some sun to warm up the recent leaking nose.

Was watching some entertainment show Jaymee Ong was hosting and Jason and I both agreed that her whiney nasal voice was -shakes head-. Funny how we never noticed that earlier. Anyway, I saw the clip from The Devil Wears Prada. (The one where Jazzy and BK said I reminded them of the poor protagonist...) Guess who's playing me! Anne Hathaway from the Princess Diaries! Haha. And Meryl Streep's the prada clad devil.

That served as a reminder for me to rethink my whole situation. To be perfectly honest, I'm rather enjoying my internship. While eating, living and breathing fashion can get abit OTT at times, I am still ultimately female, so I don't get turned off the way I probably would if I were facing IT news 24/7. However, the lack of income's really getting to me. Now, I admit that I've never been one to live on a shoestring budget, but things are really getting ridiculous. Urghs. I hate being plagued by such self-created problems.

On a lighter note, Ken passed me a kit kat tin with a note that said "Save lots of money with this can, can. Haha. Remember, money can only go in, not out! All the best!" Friends rock.

This fact has been bugging me ever since I read it in Shape: Think about this - TWO Egg McMuffin from (duh) MacDonalds and Coffee Bean's Breko Day set. (The latter basically consists of two sausages, scrambled eggs, toast and fruit if I remember correctly.) Which has more calories???
Well surprise surprise, but Breko Day actually contains a whooping 890 calories, as compared to 300 calories per Egg McMuffin! You can stuff yourself silly with 2 and a half Egg McMuffins and still save 140 calories. Got it off my chest alright. Trivia time's over!
