Let the killing cooking begin.

Let the killing cooking begin.

It's yet another Friday, yet another gathering. I'm kinda enjoying it, though I'd probably be able to soak up the festivity better should I be less drained. I can't seem to get CPM outta my head. Not a pretty mental image I assure you, haha!

It's dinner with the Spottiswoode gang tonight. About time I say! The last time we had a proper gathering was back in October where they celebrated my birthday, and considering that we're all staying in the same estate....... Hmmm. Lol. I'm doing the cooking tonight by the way!

Appetiser - Bacon-wrapped asparagus
Main Course - Chicken and prawn kebabs with tuna pasta salad
Dessert - Brownie with ice-cream (I'm cheating on this. I bought yummy brownies from the shop, haha!)

Ken came along with me to the supermarket earlier. Halfway through the shopping, enlightenment dawned and he proclaimed that the reason I asked him along was because I wanted someone to lug my groceries around. Haha! I never did think of it that way! He's been lounging on the couch waiting to help since 2 hours ago, oops. Time to get to work in the kitchen. Ah. How more domesticated can I get? ROFL.

Play of light - Part 2

Play of light - Part 2

Same road, different time.
Same people, different feeling.

It's funny how a familiar night scene, when shot in the day, can bring about such a difference. The angles and slants of daylight are somehow manipulated to enhance the flaws, thus increasing self-consciouness and exposure. Would it be right to say that daylight is the conscience of the being?

Had a quickie-lunch with the gang in Sentosa.. felt a little like those dearly-missed lunch-times. I can still remember trudging into the office at 830 to begin the countdown to 1245 for me to zip off to grab the gang for lunch. Good memories.
I've got a feeling I'm gonna get sick of the island real soon though, what with the repeated visits back for surveys. Yawns. Gonna get me some shut-eye before the coffee-session with my bitch.

When all the clocks stop ticking.

When all the clocks stop ticking.
Feeling: Incompetent and a little like a walking time-bomb.

I feel like I've been running an endless race ever since school started. Work's been piling since day 1, and until now, there are still times when I feel like I've yet to make sense of what is happening.

My way of coping was to bury myself in nonsense, and I guess I've been subconsciously filling my schedule to the brim. Even my precious mornings have morphed into mad rushes. To the gym, to the pool, to breakfast dates, to meetings, to school... I can't remember the last time I've had time to sit at the table for a long leisure breakfast with the morning papers and a nice cuppa. Blind sabotage - that's what I call what I'm doing.

I don't think I have quite adjusted back to poly life. The mental block that's been plaguing me since day 1 has yet to go away, despite my initial optimism. It's still there, right at the very centre of my mind, obstructing my train of thoughts. I doubt a good shaking, a tight slap and a hard shove against the wall would help dissolve the block, but all are welcome to try.

A little comfort's all I need. Solutions, however useful, just make me want to scream.

When pigs fly.

When pigs fly.

"What you doing NYE?"
"Not sure yet, why?"
"Wanna go to church?"
"Hahahaha. Okay. Why???"
"I need to find some inner peace."
"Okay. Which church?"

Boxing Day

Boxing Day.

An impromptu post-run breakfast with the mom morphed into a talk about the horrors of pre0gnancy. The pain of C-sections, saggy skin, and enough stretch marks to form a world atlas. Goodness. Someone should hire the woman to deter a class of teenagers with raging hormones from premarital sex. ROFL.

Let us take a moment to say a prayer for the victims of the tsunami disaster a year ago.

On a slightly different note, here's a message from Ceci.
"Happy Boxing Day. *bish."

Right babe.

Zipping off.. yet again.

So random... so abstract.

All that festive fuss. :)

I can barely believe I slept a quarter of my Christmas day away. After all the festive fuss, it is now a mere 2 hours before the day ends, and the countdown to Christmas 2006 begins.

Christmas celebrations started a tad earlier for me this year, despite that Calculus paper on the eve of Christmas eve. Urghs. Had the Sentosa gang over for a Peranakan style dinner on the 23rd. (Bless their souls I wasn't the one doing the cooking, haha!) It was no big rowdy affair; just a warm quiet gathering. Nice.

Cecilia slept over, and we trudged down to one of the cafes at the shophouses outside for our waffle brunch, tea and a latte. Yum. Headed over to one of the house parties with Jason, which was yet another warm quiet affair. The awkwardness I felt at the same party a year ago was pretty much non-existent, and I was pretty much at ease in fact. Yet another of those instances when I question if PR has changed me.

After a night of interrupted sleep (I vaguely remember getting jabbed in the face) and an extremely lazy morning, Jason and I zipped down to meet my bitch and Vince for a Christmas brunch at Cityhall and post-brunch teh tariks. It's always good to see her. :) They were supposed to come over for dinner at my place, but we're all too knackered. Haha. I hope it's got nothing to do with the fact that I volunteered to cook... ROFL.

Had a quick night jog post-nap. Funny how the smell of grass makes the air smell of Singaporeanly-Christmasy. Then it was an impromptu Christmas dinner with the folks - dinner was actually dabao-ed turkey and ham from dad's restaurant, haha! And log cake. Alright, zipping out for late-night coffee. Merry Christmas folks!

Even the best fall down sometime.

Even the best fall down sometime.

The dawn is breaking
A light shining through
You're barely waking
And I'm tangled up in you

I'm open, you're closed
Where I follow, you'll go
I worry I won't see your face
Light up again

Even the best fall down sometime
Even the wrong words seem to rhyme
Out of the doubt that fills my mind
I somehow find
You and I collide

I'm quiet, you know
You make a first impression
I've found I'm scared to know I'm always on your mind

Even the best fall down sometime
Even the stars refuse to shine
Out of the back you fall in time
I somehow find
You and I collide

Don't stop here
I lost my place
I'm close behind

Even the best fall down sometime
Even the wrong words seem to rhyme
Out of the doubt that fills your mind
You finally find
You and I collide.

Spinning: Katie Melua - The Closest Thing To Crazy
Feeling: Sleepy and semi-reflective

Dinner with the siblings at Whatever tonight was fabulous. The food was great, and so was the company. :)

I feel like I've got so much to say but what was left of my brain cells have been monopolized by Calculus prior to this post. It's Jason's social night tomorrow. Hmm. I'm too sleepy to get all excited about it though. Should be an experience I think, heh.

I haven't been dilligent in practising for Friday's Calculus test I know. Like I was telling Kelly at the pool today, I always seem to have someplace to go, something to do. The past few days of my supposed study break have been spent zipping around - revision has been minimal, lol. I would be enjoying this whole Christmas rush if I weren't feeling so guilty and knackered!

I feel like my life's been tipped off balance, though only slightly. Too many a Nora Roberts novel stirs the idealist, but I'd have to be crazy to be naive. I'd just have to find a way to spend some me-time, ponder, and get my life back in order, hopefully before 2006 comes rolling around.

Laters.

They've been knocking me sideways.

They've been knocking me sideways.
Feeling: Silly

My sis has got Santana on full blast in the living room right now, and Sideways is on. Perfect for a cloudy Tuesday afternoon. :) I just messaged Justin and Yeehong for their addresses. My intention was obvious, but I couldn't find my address book. Haha! YH asked if we're gonna watch another Christmas show this year. I'd forgotten all about our yearly tradition of catching a Christmas movie together! It was Polar Express last year.. I wonder what it'll be this year.

Zipping off to Sentosa. Miss me.

It's been awhile since we entered those woods.

It's been awhile since we entered those woods.

Yesterday marked the first day of my study break for Friday's Calculus paper, and I spent a huge part of it on a whole lotta Christmas shopping instead. Hahaha. Did an impromptu run with Ken in the morning. It was relaxing, running where our legs took us, and we even did a round through the "forbidden woods". I've never stepped in there for at least a year, ever since I saw the bloodied carcass of some dead animal. The dogs in those woods are ferocious, trust me.

Met "Sister Yvonne" (ROFL) for an afternoon swim in Delta thereafter, and it was more of a laugh than a workout I think, but I'd spare you guys the crude (and extremely hilarious) details. Let's just say I'm hoping karma doesn't whip me back in the face.

Zipped down to Ikea for meatballs thereafter, and I returned home with two shopping bags chock-full of gifts and knick knacks. The shopaholic never ceases. :) Rushed down for shopping part 2 with Ceci in the night and we trawled (almost) the whole of Orchard Road before collapsing at Cartel with Joe and our waffle dinners. Knackered.

I didn't get outta bed till past eleven. So sorry I had to cancel our lunch date Ceci. Will make it up babe, promise. :) Lounging around on my couch listening to Santana post-workout has started my day right, despite the late start, haha. I'm so prepared for this evening's (I predict) draining meeting. And I officially declare Sideways by Santa ft. Citizen Cope the make-out song for the rest of 2005. Never a sexier song I've heard.

You know it aint easy
For these thoughts here to leave me
No words to describe it
In French or in English
'Cause diamonds they fade
And flowers they bloom
And I'm tellin' you

These feelings won't go away
They've been knockin' me sideways
They've been knockin' me out lately
Whenever you come around me
These feelings won't go away
They've been knockin' me sideways
I keep thinkin' in a moment that
Time will take them away
These feelings won't go away
These feelings won't go away

Challenges. Bite me.

All I need in life - laughter and mudpies.

All I need in life - laughter and mudpies.
It's been yet another while. The past couple of days have been been a flurry of activities - deadlines, dinner, drinks, shopping, supper, MUTS... I still feel a little like a bundle of nerves. It's prolly gonna take awhile before I slip into my reflective mode, so this post'll be a light-hearted one.

I can't believe Christmas is less than a week away. With all the term-time rush, I doubt I'd feel the festive spirit even if it were to grope my ass. So that sounded crude, but that's the truth. It's kinda hard to enjoy the little things that make Christmas, Christmas, when I'm too busy zipping about town rushing to complete my errands. Carols in the supermarket, festive decorations, Christmas trees... Sigh. But I kinda enjoy the rush actually, haha! Maybe this is what the Christmas spirit is about!

I dig my blog title, inspired by my long-awaited coffee session with my bitch. Okay so we did it the sin-filled way at N.Y.D.C with a mudpie, a boney cake and 2 jugga Elephanccinos, but that's much better than a pretentious night at a java-joint I think. :)
I think it's great we're both doing French, and that we both kinda suck at it. Hilarious. ROFL.

Another Monday, another week. That means I'm probably a week closer to the day I get outta this twisted rut. Bali, Thailand, Bali, Thailand, Bali, Thailand... chants. Speaking of the latter, Jason picked up this free travel magazine for me the other day we were at Cartel. It was this Thailand special, with focus stories on its beaches. I'm in love.

Sometimes I wonder who I'd be today.

Sometimes I wonder who I'd be today.
Funk: Chris Cagle - Miss Me Baby
Feeling: Lonesome

I'm not particularly a fan of country music, but this song blew me away when I heard it on Jason's ipod. It's now on constant replay on Yahoo music videos. What's it about cowboys? That hat.. those tight jeans... that swagger. So not my type, haha. Two more songs I wanna spin.
  • Rascal Flatts - Bless The Broken Road
  • Peter Frampton - Baby I Love Your Way, though I personally prefer INXS finalist Mig Ayesa's rendition. It made me cry. The CD's out I think. I am so gonna get it if his rendition's in.

All previous inspiration to write had been channelled into my Dubai reflection paper, thus the short hiatus from blogging. After days of staring at the word document with writer's block, I am proud to say I'm finally done with it. What a load off my back. :) If there's one thing I fear most, it would be to lose my ability to express my feelings in words. Then again, this paper was a toughie as I didn't feel much for Dubai to begin with, lol.

Today's late morning swim did good in waking me up from my sleepy state. Swam 10 laps on my own before Kelly joined me. We did another 10, then chilled for awhile exchanging girly gossip. Nice start to a day. :)

Today's Calculus lecture was a riot! Jane and I were giggling away like crazy baboons at everything from Marc to wearing bunny slippers to next week's OCS social night. Ever had times when every single thing cracks you up? Today was one of those times, haha. Read on only if you appreciate twisted dry humor.

Me: That lecturer's blouse is so translucent.
Marc: I didn't know you like married women with three kids.
Me: Haha I prefer those with 5 kids.
Marc: What is this, you paedophile and what!
Me: I'm a mamophile. (Mom as in mother.)

-Jane leaning on me and repeatedly banging her head against my shoulder.
Me: -turning to her- "Can you stop humping my shoulder?"
-Jane cracks up-
-Lecturer throws us a dirty look-
-Basic instinct had me covering Jane's ears-
-Jane laughs harder-
Jane: "Babe, you know covering my ears won't stop me from laughing right?"

Marc turns to write something on Jane's book. It reads "da4 dan3 mao1", loosely translated as "brave cat".
-Jane and I turn to look at him questioningly-
That boy actually meant to write "da4 fei2 zhu1", or "fat pig"!!! I knew his Chinese was bad, but I never knew it was this bad. Hahaha!

Time to start cracking on writing those Christmas cards.

Miss Me Baby

Miss Me Baby

Miss me baby
When you hear our favourite song
Miss me baby
And when you start to sing along
Think about all the times that we danced
In the light to it all night long, oh
Then miss me baby

And want me honey
Like you did the night you told me that you loved me
We couldn't wait anymore, left the keys in the door
Took my hand, pulled me down on the kitchen floor
Yeah, we were that crazy
Miss me baby.

Why you should never attempt to blog while eating an orange.

Why you should never attempt to blog while eating an orange.
Spinning: Bic Runga - Sway / Lifehouse - Breathing
Feeling: Unglam.

"It makes so tired, I feel so uninspired. My head is battling with my heart, logic has been torn apart, and now it all turns sour, come sweeten every afternoon. Say you'll stay, don't come and go like you do. Sway my way, yeah I need to know all about you."

It's a messy messy sight. My auntie's just thrown me a buncha napkins, as if to prove my point, haha! I'm alternating between bites of orange and hammering on my keyboard with the juice dribbling down my chin. KIDDING! The dribbling bit was way exaggerated, lol.

A sudden cramp in my right calf had me jumping out of bed at six in the morning, screaming bloody murder. Did laps with Kenrick a couple of hours ago, and I would say we're a pretty good match! He's lanky and can thus cover more distance with a stroke, so that motivated to kick a little harder and move a little faster through the water, despite my twitching calf.

"Ooooh the water is cold. I. can't. feel. my. butt."
"Ahh.. ahhh... ahh..." (almost like the beginning of Leaving On a Jetplane)

How's that for injecting a little amusement to a lazy Saturday morning? That was Kenrick and I, prior to jumping into the pool. The lift at his block was down (he stays on the 24th storey, haha), so he came over to hang for awhile, and even persuaded me to complete the Calculus tutorial I had swore at before the swim.

I've been meaning to do my Edu Trip Reflection Paper since forever. I've got one and half paragraphs to date, but my gut tells me I'll be deleting the whole chunk of junk once I get my mind down to writing it right. I'd initially planned to complete it before heading down to town (my over-optimistic genes at work again), but I figured I'd better close the open word document before writer's block makes me destroy my computer. Now that would be bad.
And it's not like I expected Marc to call.. they're done with the soccer match. 4-2, I'm impressed, and proud of them.

Will be heading downtown to meet the gang in slightly under an hour. I've got to pick up a house-warming present for tonight, as well as a birthday present for my aunt. Now maybe I'd be able to do the winding down at cafe thing I'd wanted yesterday, and I'll have the rowdy guys for company instead. :)

I saw an extremely pretty, albeit useless, calendar at Borders yesterday. Snapshots of Greece. I channelled the money into getting myself a travel journal instead, so I would say that was money better spent. I can't wait for this sem to be over. I need a getaway. Pronto! Off to the showers... wardrobe crisis.

If I didn't write it down, it never happened.

If I didn't write it down, it never happened.
Spinning: Robert Downey Jr & Vonda Shepard - Chances Are
Feeling: Everything I shouldn't be feeling.

It's only been slightly over a week, but it feels like I've been bogged down by the whole CPM shit forever. Nothing could quite describe the sheer relief that filled me once we'd shown him our amended copy. We're back on track honeys.

I thoroughly relished the long bus ride to town. The sun rays slipping in through dusty windows, the familiar turn at City Hall, the lazy serenity of a Friday evening... I tried my utmost to let the intangible enjoyment seep into my bones.

Spent the next couple of hours trawling town for the many elusive perfect presents. I'd over-optimistically expected to get my shopping done within 2 hours and had even envisioned winding down at Coffee Bean with a cuppa and my notebook while waiting for Ceci. Despite her being an hour late, I was barely a quarter through my shopping when we met up, haha! So much for a quiet me-evening.

I think I've gotten too used to being called "mummy". I actually turned and almost replied with a "yes?" when I heard the teenage girl beside me. Thank goodness my reflexes weren't fast, for she was calling out for her real mummy.

The light dinner with my two girls at Coffee Club was enjoyable. We bumped into Frog, whom I know as Jason's Hospi buddy, who also turns out to be Ceci's ex-secondary-school-classmate. I'd never doubted it when people say it's a small world; I just never expected it to be this small that's all, haha. We hung out abit as he waited for the rest of the Hospi guys to come down for their drinking session. Us girls took the (slightly) healthier alternative and went in search of dessert, lol.

"The other line always moves faster until you join it." Got this off a book of quotes. How true. I always seem to choose the slowest-moving lines, haha! Moral? Never ever queue up with Leigh.

--

A friend got her heart bruised today. Though she tried her damnest to deny that she'd let him get to her, I could see the truth reflected in those eyes. All I could offer was a hug, and to stroke her hair.
