Yakkety Yak.

Yakkety Yak.

Why are people so fond of that four letter word? The foul one that is. Sure, I am guilty of letting it slip a couple of times but to pepper every sentence with it is too extreme. To listen to a conversation in the background where f**k is used to describe everything from the hot girl to that sucky phone is almost too much to bear.

My stiff shoulders need a goooood stretching. I'm so glad I brought my swimming stuff along today. Can't wait to hit the pool.

Ain't it funny?

Ain't it funny?

While I did well enough to go on to a good enough secondary school, I was never the genius kid back in primary school. And would you believe that I used to flunk my math and combined sciences back when I was in Secondary 3? I remember being so excited for a first date that I completely gave up on studying for my last paper and thus flunking my Physics Mid-Year exam.

Free spirited? Maybe just a little. Slacker? Hell yes. God knows how I got that single digit number for my O's then.

However, that fateful day somehow marked the drastic change in my academic results. I -gasp- developed a responsible head on my shoulders sometime in poly, and now, at the end of my three years, I've got a bronze medal to my name. Ain't if funny how we change?

Island dreaming.

Island dreaming.

I've been having recent urges to whisk Jason off for an island getaway for a couple of days. But that will result in the SAF hot on our heels, so no thank you.

Must be the over-urbanized surroundings I've been in. If my memory serves me correctly, I never did have the urge to run away to Tioman back when I was on my Sentosa internship. Sigh. My system's craving for a seaside retreat - clear blue waters, powder-fine sand, warm sunshine, balmy evenings and quiet starlit nights. SAF restrictions aside, there is still the problem of my savings which are diminishing at an alarming rate.

What does one do when on an internship that pays in terms of beauty products? Scrimp on food while using $3/ml perfume like water? And get this. I'll be handing over 507 buckeroos to my piano teacher tomorrow - $210 for fees and $307 for my practical registration. I am living a life of irony.

Mother's Day and three other important birthdays this May. I should consider becoming a plain bread eating social hermit outside of work. That'll save me a substantial amount. Or maybe I should just go get myself a REAL JOB. That pays.

On a brighter note, check out the wacky Sentosa pics from today. We didn't manage to head down yesterday as we all awoke to pouring rain which was just as well. Night world.

Oh where art thou?

Oh where art thou?

The weekend's finally rolling along! I've spent every night this week out about town with none of my habitual tv front veg-out. I can almost hear my soul screaming from couch potato withdrawal symptoms, haha.

After our run on Sunday, Ceci and I yanked off our shoes and stood knee deep in the sea, enjoying the (imported) sand between our toes and the waves lapping against our thighs. It was then that I realised how long it's been since I last spent some time at the beach and how much I really missed doing that. I am definitely looking forward to a day at the beach with Ken and CH tomorrow. Hello sun, hello sand, hello sea, hello bumming. -does an imaginary flop onto imaginary sand- Ahh... paradise.
(P.s. I have given up on the idea of sporting snow white skin for the sake of avoiding skin cancer. Hello SPF50 sunblock.)

Popped by Buttcheeks at The Heeren Shops earlier to return the bikinis only to see the salesguy pull the shutters half-way down with a yellow post-it that said "Back in ten tmr" stuck on it. I almost wanted to run after him and beg him to hold his toilet break. Thinking back, I should have!
Fast-forward ten minutes of aimless wandering around HMV and five minutes of dorkish waiting outside the shop for him. Fast-forward the time it took me to get to Taka and back. Shutters still half-down. Ten minutes my foot! The person who vandalized the post-it with "tmr" was probably one of his many victims! I wanted to hurl! Waiting around for him or anyone at all with a growling tummy? So. not. gonna. happen. again.

I was thinking earlier about how I thought that magazine people had to be hard and bitchy to survive and how I'd intially worried that I wasn't bitchy enough to be in the industry. Well, my stylist is probably one of the sweetest people on earth and doing well from what I see. Misconception erased!

Anyway, here I am back at the office with my hunger fed and my article done. Gonna zip to Great World City in awhile to return more bikinis and maybe grab myself an ice-cream cone. Life's good? You bet. :)

Tickkety tock.

Tickkety tock.

As much as I love to complain about having to lug all those shopping bags around, time sure passes faster when I'm zipping about town as compared to sitting here in front of my desk all day. Sure, there is still the after-glow of the morning's freebie acquisition and a ton of fashion and beauty mags to keep me going... but I think my butt is starting to ache from all the sitting! Kinda makes you wonder how I got through my previous internship huh, haha.

Anyway, after endless mind-torturing minutes watching time crawl by, the work day is (almost) finally coming to an end. I'm 23 minutes to leaving the office to join Jason for MI:3! I can't believe he managed to get tickets.

Kelly said something on Monday that had me gloating a little. "No matter how tired I am, I will still make it a point to read your blog." Awww babe. :)

For all those out there who are looking to relieve some of that mid-week boredom, click here. Aptly titled Hungry Girls, it's got all the latest goss to help you make wiser food choices! Till the next time!

The thursday beauty bazaar

The thursday beauty bazaar

At approximately ten in the morning, while everyone was barely getting into the swing of work, my stylist swung into the centre of the room with an armful of bags. "Help yourselves!" she proclaimed. And so we did just that. We all started out a bit shy, but soon after, even the guys joined in, unabashedly screaming, "Mother's Day present! Take take!"

So here's my share of the loot:

1. Escada Pacific Paradise EDT
2. Summer by Kenzo EDT
3. Incanto Charms by Salvatore Ferragamo EDT
4. A bunch of treatments for permed hair as I'm the only one in the office with it
5. Clinique bronzing blusher
6. L'Oreal blusher
7. Nivea lip balm
8. Dior Addict Ultra-Gloss lipstick
9. Shu Uemura eyeshadow
10. Cosme Decorte eyeshadow

Those in bold are products that I've always wanted but never got around to buying. Cool huh!

Just when I thought my Thursday couldn't get any better, I was given a couple more reviews to do, this time including one on a swanky nail boutique. Guess where I'll be at noon tomorrow... Haha!

Jasmine finally told me all about The Devil Wears Prada over dinner with the IG last night. The protagonist (the good one) is the personal assistant of the worst-ever fashion editor who makes her do ridiculously evil tasks. Don't worry guys, my bosses are a far cry from the Prada-clad devil in the story, thank goodness!

There, I've let out all the nervous excitement that's been clouding my mind and my ability to write. Back to work.

Immortalised in print.

Immortalised in print.

I've heard so much about about how I resemble the protagonist in The Devil Wears Prada from Jazzy and BK. I've picked up the book a couple of times at the bookstores only to put it back because there didn't seem to be much of a love story involved! Hahaha. See, I'm a romantic at heart. Anyway, can someone please enlighten me, because I've forgotten all my secondary school literature and am too lazy to check the dictionary, what is a protagonist??? I can't quite remember if the antagonist is the evil one or not.. I hope I'm good in the book, ha ha ha!

I'm having quite a ball writing. To date, I've written a shop review as well as two hair and three beauty how-tos. These couple of days have served to remind me that I am actually a step closer to the career path I've always thought I wanted, and that it really is quite an amazing job! My stylist asked me earlier if I could see myself doing it on a full-time basis - I guess I could, if it was a full-time job that paid la, haha!

Getting a lil' hungry. Time to grab a bite. Over and out.

And the fashion guru speaks...

And the fashion guru speak...

Hello! It's been one hell of a fashion overload at work today. You know, fashion has always been something I indulge in as and when I am free or when the boss is away. I mean, you can hardly flip open the latest issue of Cleo or visit glam.com when your boss, sneakily omnipotent, is just around the corner right? Imagine how refreshing it is then to browse fashion sites at work without tangling my fingers trying to minimize the window each time I hear footsteps!

Since 9 in the morning, I've read about dressing for different body shapes (I'm a spoon by the way, just like Jennifer Aniston. Let's hope Jason doesn't do a Brad Pitt haha!); different hair coloring techniques (highlights, lowlights... even something called the skunk); more on manis and pedis… and I've probably called up one too many beauty companies. I never thought I'd say this but it's all starting to get a little boring! Fashion. Boring. My my my, I never thought this day would come. Kinda proves that too much of one thing can never be good huh?

"Does this mean you'll get bored of journalism too if you do it for a long time?"
Good question Ceci. That worries me too.

Satiated.

Satiated.

I feel like I've done so much this week. If there's one thing I love about my job (internship), it'll have to be the flexibility of my schedule. Dig that. And the fact that the lugging's temporarily over. Thanks for the help TC!

Caught up with the gang over dinner last night. Hung around with Faggy and Marc whilst waiting for Jane to knock off before we headed for a meatball dinner at the Ikea cafe. We would have stayed out way longer if Jane hadn't made the sudden decision to go clubbing! Tsk Jane! Heh.

Anyway, I love the way I've been spending my recent Saturdays. Pulled myself out of bed at 8 for a run before gobbling down my brekkie to join Ken and CH for an impromptu swim/tan. It's been awhile since the three of us have hung out by the pool together but some things, like how CH still hides the shade while Ken and I hungrily bask in the sun, never change.

The three of us then hit Kbox at Chinatown with Jason and Ceci. I've never enjoyed such goofy action for a long time. Screeching to reach impossibly high notes... adding weird special effects... bobbing and shaking to cornily catchy songs by like Baby One More Time and Sex Bomb... the ultimate must have been the group rendition of the theme song from Huo Yuan Jia. CH and Jason were doing the singing mostly, with the rest of us doing the "huo huo huo huo huo..." during the choruses. Check out Ken's moves and mine - kungfu inspired, haha! Scroll down for pictures.

Here I am now, back after an eventful day. Another night of hitting the sheets with wet hair - too tired to wait, too lazy to blow dry. Meeting Ceci for a morning run at Sentosa tomorrow. Night world.
