Barenaked

Barenaked

One day, in the midst of a totally irrelevant activity, my first ever blog-entry flashed past my mind. In it, I talked about my (horrible) experiences with love and loss, and the fear and emotional baggage that comes along with it.

I used to be a shameless writer who wrote from the heart, regardless of how naked my thoughts were. Blogging was my outlet to rant, and "airing" dirty laundry (everything from griping about being lonely, quarrels with the boyfriend to the mushiest entries ever) didn't quite seem to bother me then. I guess I was much less wary/afraid of being judged when I was younger.

Growing up makes one wiser, yet at the same time more jaded.

I can't remember how or when it started, but I have developed the habit of screening my thoughts and words before I publish a blog entry. You know what, to put it in a bad way, I would say my blogging has been commercialized to a certain extent.

What's worse about this gripe-filled entry is that I am just not gung-ho enough to say, "Who cares what other people think of me?" Of course I care! And caring has dissolved my baring-all into mundane activity descriptions.

This should stop.

Wednesday was Corrinne May night. Hmm. Like my colleague Eileen, I definitely think Corrinne May does much better during mini-gigs with a smaller audience. Her 1.5 hour long concert was just too much for me and my hunger pangs. Let's just leave the review at that.

Then again, there were a couple of highlights like when she performed Mr. Beasley, Something About You and her rendition of Close to You. As I lost myself in the lyrics and her voice, I almost expected to see Jason beside me instead of Justin (no offence dude!) when the songs ended. Will spare you guys the history lessons on how her songs played a part is us getting together.

A certain act of concern my brother showed for my sister-in-law at dinner tonight reminded me of Jason. I could just imagine him doing the same thing to me.

I miss him. It's not the I-can't-live-without-seeing-him kinda miss, nor the I-don't-necessarily-miss-him-just-miss-having-someone kinda miss. It was a simple tug on the heart that serves as a reminder of how much he means to me.

Of late, his being away at camp has provided me with a bit more time to think and analyse, and I found myself wondering how our feelings were gonna last and not dull. (Not fade, but you know, the monotonous dull. Think that little dinner episode answered my question. :)

There, my first step to not caring (so much) about what others think.

The Way of the Witch

Fields of Gold

It's been awhile since I last blogged from a place outside the office. My home desktop needs a seriously good trashing (it functions like it already had one), haha! I'm fully enjoying the perks of Jason's proper functioning desktop while he packs for his field camp after this long bookout. I'm going to fully enjoy the next three hours before the army claims him for 1.5 weeks.

We spent the weekend properly dating, away from the constraints of NS time, and it was refreshingly nice, though it took us both a bit of getting used to after the past couple of hurried weekends. Apart from exploring book havens, shopping and catching movies, what I enjoyed most was our old routine of having takeaway and watching a vcd. What I find most surprising about myself is my newly-tamed temper - not as fiesty as I used to be pre-NS. Can't say the same about me at work though, haha.

PR requires the skill of manipulation, and though I am no master, 2.5 months of work experience has definitely changed me a little. Whatever it takes to survive eh? I happened to listen to myself (the best way I can describe) answering a media query on the phone, and boy, do I sound bitchy! Haha.

I remember a conversation I had with Boon How sometime last week, where he told me of the difference between a part-timer and an intern. The former does routine jobs for the pay, but the latter forgoes the pay for enrichment. I think I just experienced what he was talking about.
I think I am a relatively nice person, but just because I am obliging doesn't mean I am dumb to not see when I am being manipulated. I was a little upset because I initially thought this person was genuinely nice, but at least, now I know better. I definitely won't be so keen to help the next time around - assertiveness comes in here.

That was the only low point actually. Everything's been pretty peachy. :) Off I go.

Some Well Deserved Sunning

Some Well Deserved Sunning

I finally got my much-needed dose of vitamin D during lunchtime! Instead of heading out to Seah Im (Marilyn and I miss the food like crazy), I headed down to the beach for sunning instead.
Despite my earlier post, my workload hit a sudden high in the mid-morning, and I was literally running around for over two hours non-stop. Seeing the exceptionally clear skies and searing sun, I grabbed my beach gear (I leave them in my office drawer) and headed near the waters for some much needed alone time.

I'm done with Cecilia Ahern's where rainbows end. It's basically my ultimate fantasy alive in a novel - delicious. Anyway for the uninitiated, Ahern is the author of Ps. I love you. Jolted your memory yet?

Well, where rainbows end is an excellent book, albeit a little too wordy for an impatient me who was DESPERATE to know the ending. I ALMOST succumbed to the dirty old trick of reading the last page whilst I was in the midst of the story, but thankfully, I pulled my itchy fingers back. Haha!

The beach break did me good. Now now, how many of you can boast of taking a beach break during lunch? I'm getting smug.

0846 Blues

0846 Blues

Okay, so I'm not exactly blue. I just wanted some abstract title that will make people sit up and take notice, though I suspect it ain't working, haha! Actually, I'm far from blue as it's been a pretty good work week - lotsa laughing and mucking around with my colleagues, and that makes office life exceptionally interesting. :)

Met up with Jazzy baby on Wednesday night for dinner and some catching up, and boy, did we have fun. We initially had trouble deciding on a place to go after our Soup Spoon dinner, but we ended up going grocery shopping at Jason's Marketplace and Marks & Spencers instead. It was fun, and we were having a whale of a time examining the nutrition content of almost everything, lol.

Jasmine got herself instant macaroni and cheese and a packet of milk; and I got granola bars, a cup of Meiji Strawberry yoghurt (pretty much the most edible I've tasted so far apart from Yami), Lipton Lemongrass & Ginger teabags, and a stick of beef jerky for Jason. Now thank me for the peep into our grocery bags, haha!

Been bumping into BH and Mr. Ram recently near the gateway, so I get free rides into the office! Haha. That explains why I'm early these days, though I have to brag that I've been making extra effort to leave the house 5 minutes earlier than my (late) usual. It's been breakfast on the go of late, haha!

Time to get cracking and get to work before my director sees this, though the entire department is extremely laidback today. Till next time!

Salute to the Sun

Salute to the Sun

I brought my beachwear to the office today
Expecting the previous sunny days
I packed a peanut butter sandwich for lunch at the beach
And with Kenrick I arranged to meet
How was I to know it would pour
All of a sudden, in the late morn?
Dear Mr. Sun, kudos to you
For ensuring my plan didn't come through.

Darn.

Like Grassy Meadows and Clear Blue Skies

Like Grassy Meadows and Clear Blue Skies

My bitch will be so proud of me today. She has been bugging me for years to inject colour into my wardrobe, and I achieved that this morning! I'm wearing a grass green spaghetti top and a baby blue sarong skirt (my inspiration for the title), and miracles of all miracles, they match! Definitely an alternative to my usual pairing of white/black tops with this sarong skirt. :)

I've been fairly fortunate these two days. Mr. Ram gave me a lift to the office yesterday, and BH gave me one today, just as I was about to sprint for the shuttle bus. You know the saying, "the nearer you stay, the more you'll be late"? It is SO true, especially for me. Haha.

Well, it's finally Friday. Time seems to pass so quickly, yet so slowly. After today, it'll be officially 3 months to the end of my internship. Ah, speaking of ends, it's Adel's last day today, and come next Friday, it'll be BH's, Douglas' and Mark's. I'd definitely miss all the lunch-time nonsense, but there's always Roger, our catwalk model. I'll post up the pictures when I have the time and urge to use the computer at home, haha. Robin's giving our souvenirs from his trip to Bali.. I got a pretty purple sequinned box. Nice!

Went to the Clarke Quay Food Fiesta on Wednesday - nothing fantastic actually, but I got to try the renowned Hooters wings. Not bad at all. :) Proceeded on to Fisherman's Wharf for fish & chips thereafter. Yum.

Met Kenrick after his tanning session at Sentosa yesterday to go shopping for hair dye. Now my hair's coloured what Garnier calls Cashew Nut, but it's actually pretty toned down. Can barely see the colour unless I'm under the light or something. Will be off to Chinatown to attempt to purchase my facial wash, before meeting my family for dinner at the restaurant. Have this urge to on a cd shopping spree actually, haha!

I Wanna Soak Up the Sun

I Wanna Soak Up the Sun

Two of my colleagues are away on half-day today. Just as well, don't wanna pass my flu bug to them, haha. I've been having flu symptoms for several days, but what spurred me to pay the doctor a visit was a phenomenal burping process that start at 10 in the morning and went on all the way till 7 in the evening. 9 hours, what a feat. Especially since I don't burp, I fart. Haha!

Ah well, had to skip my run as it was pouring yesterday morning, and I couldn't do it today as I was hacking my lungs away. I had a really bad experience in Secondary 3 when I tried to run when I had a cough. Throughout the short 1.2km or so, I really thought I was gonna have an asthma attack.

It's been a pretty laidback day today. No deadlines due till Friday, and the inspiration to churn out a press release has yet to strike (if it ever does that is). Currently scouring the papers and tabloids for mention of Sentosa. Seems like there's yet another problem with the Discover space shuttle that took off yesterday. Sure hope it'll return to Earth safely.

Took a post-lunch walk on the beach today, and it was the first time in 1000 days I felt sun on my skin. FABULOUS. One day, one day, I'll bring my bikini to work. But I don't exactly look forward to feeling sticky and sandy back in the office post-beaching though. I'll give it some thought.
Went to see the bikini I've got my eye on as well, but was too lazy and full to try it on. Haha! Today is pay day.. so it'll be mine soon enough! :)

Coffeebean has opened an outlet on the island, yum. Now I can get a proper caffeine fix and not an unsatisfactory one from the (weird) pantry coffee.

Going to Clarke Quay's Food Fiesta with a couple of colleagues after work, and I'm bringing them to have Fisherman's Wharf for fish & chips first. I ought to be shot for having that for dinner, what with my sore throat and lack of exercise, but oh well, I only live once. =)

As Easy as Sunday Morning

As Easy as Sunday Morning

There, my attempt at capturing the famous scene from E.T. It's showing on tv now by the way, and I'm kinda doing a bad job of multi-tasking between blogging and watching the movie. (I'm getting abit worried 'cos ET looks like it's dying.) I vaguely remember liking that show as a kid, and seeing Drew Barrymore as a young girl serves as a reminder of how old the movie actually is.

I'm slowly getting back in touch with the world of tv. Did anyone catch Bring It On last night? Jesse Bradford is hot hot hot. That lopsided grin... I caught the movie with my Secondary 2 class after our chalet back in 2000. Man. Is this a weekend of reminiscing? Lol.

Last night's filming didn't quite go as planned. Why am I not surprised? I must be a clairvoyant! Enough with the sarcasm, and I'm not going to go into it. And you know what, one of the writers from my favourite magazine, the one that I actually plan to do an internship at, was part of the film crew. Well, if she personifies the environment, then I'd better start asking myself some questions if that is really what I want.

So you see, last night's filming screw-ups were miniscule as compared to the implications of that fateful meeting on my future.
